4G University Suite™

Introduction

4G University Suite™ is a platform for research and education on LTE/LTE-Advanced and WiMAX primarily targeted at universities and research institutions. It is based on the IS-Wireless flagship products: LTE LAB™ and WiMAX LAB™. A selection of these products is complemented with additional material such as programs for university laboratory classes, courseware for supporting lectures and formulation of M.Sc. or Ph.D. projects. As such 4G University Suite™ can also be sucessfully used by training companies willing to deliver practical demonstrations to participants of their training courses.

Overview

The two component simulation suits, namely LTE LAB™ and WiMAX LAB™ are very much complementing each other and can be further split into link-level simulators (i.e., LTE PHY Lab and WiMAX PHY Lab) and system-level simulator (LTE MAC Lab) running under MATLAB environment. LTE PHY Lab is a comprehensive implementation of the 3GPP Release 8, 9 and 10 E-UTRA physical layer. It models the downlink and the uplink processing chains of PHY layer for LTE including baseband transmitters and receivers for UE and eNB. WiMAX PHY Lab is a link-level simulator reflecting mobile WiMAX physical layer.

LTE MAC Lab, a system-level simulator, truly reflects the dynamic behavior of a modeled radio access network focusing on Radio Resource Management features such as scheduling and link adaptation and including implementation of propagation and mobility models. It allows to verify the overall performance of the radio network, taking into account interference environment and temporal dynamics of channel and traffic conditions.

High detail of functional blocks implementation, reflecting baseband models of base station and mobile station, allows for great flexibility in educations and R&D. This makes the LTE LAB and WiMAX LAB tools indispensable for all students and researchers active in the area of networking, digital signal processing, development of baseband algorithm and RF processing for LTE and WiMAX.

Example of laboratory class, entitled: "OFDMA Receiver in the LTE System".
