IS-Wireless has been selected to deliver Private 5G in the UK

IS-Wireless and Telet in Cardiff

IS-Wireless will deploy its Private 5G network in Cardiff, Bath, and Shrewsbury. These networks will be established in high-demand and densely populated environments, including city centers and stadiums, marking a significant step in IS-Wireless’s involvement in diversifying the UK’s telecommunications market.

IS-Wireless was chosen by a consortium of private and public partners for the “ONE WORD” project, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The consortium leader, Telet, a UK mobile operator, has selected four locations for the private 5G network: Cardiff Market Hall and the surrounding areas near the Principality Stadium, the City of Bath, including the historic Roman Baths and the City Centre, and the Quarry Park area in Shrewsbury.

In densely populated areas like those where the deployment will occur, maintaining high network performance is a challenge. To address this, network densification is essential to adjust capacity to changing needs. However, a denser network can lead to more interference. This is where IS-Wireless’s Private 5G adds value.

Thanks to our Near-RT RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller), we don’t see interference as an issue. We either prevent it from occurring or use it to our advantage because our scheduler manages it. We increase capacity by enhancing spectral efficiency

says Artur Chmielewski, Head of Sales at IS-Wireless.

We’ve built a system that is self-aware of the available resources in every part of the mobile network. This system can allocate those resources in a cooperative and coordinated manner. By resources, we mean virtualized network elements like O-DU (Open RAN Distributed Unit) and O-CU (Open RAN Centralized Unit)

adds Rafal Sanecki, Head of Marketing at IS- Wireless.

Through this project, IS-Wireless strengthens its position in the UK market, where it has been active in the Digital Catapult’s SONIC Labs, collaborating with other vendors in the UK government-funded lab. The “ONE WORD” project will demonstrate further integration of the IS- Wireless RIC and other vendor components. The UK aims for 35% of the country’s network traffic to be carried over open and interoperable RAN architectures by 2030.

Telet is delighted to lead activities to deliver 5G Standalone services across four UK cities. As a proven OpenRAN technology vendor, Telet is excited to work with IS-Wireless and utilize its solutions for network optimization

said Peter Gradwell, Chief Commercial Officer at Telet.

The consortium comprises the following organizations: Telet, West of England Combined Authority, Bath and North East Somerset Council, City of Cardiff, Shropshire Council, Worcestershire County Council, Lancaster University and Neutral Host Networks CiC, with commercial partners Radisys, IQ Mobile, Virtuser, Antevia Networks and cellXica.

IS-Wireless’s installations in the UK were preceded by deployments in Germany, including the CampusDynA project with T-Systems and Fraunhofer, and in Poland, including the first private 5G mobile network in the Open RAN Network at a Polish university and the first Open RAN mobile network for Industry 4.0 purposes.

About Telet:

Telet is the UK’s firth mobile operator, a full UK member of the GSMA. It installs private and public mobile networks in areas with little or no mobile coverage using small cell technology. Telet runs the larges 5G SA private network in Europe for the NHS in Liverpool and is developing networks in South Wales and Wiltshire.

About IS-Wireless:

IS-Wireless provides reliable Private 5G solutions addressing use cases of industry 4.0, mission-critical, and campus networks. The offer covers all network functionalities from RAN to Core and includes pre-integrated hardware and software ready to be installed at the customer premises.

At the heart of IS-Wireless’s Private 5G is Liquid RAN, a new generation of open, disaggregated radio, which focuses on extremely efficient use of communication resources (computing and spectrum). Liquid RAN enables significant savings of network deployment costs and lowers energy consumption.

IS-Wireless has been recognized as one of the few European RAN vendors by leading operators such as Deutsche Telekom and Orange. IS-Wireless is a proud member of the Netherlands’ 6G Future Network Services program.
