Morphemic

Modelling and Orchestrating heterogeneous Resources and Polymorphic applications for Holistic Execution and adaptation of Models In the Cloud

Project overview

MORPHEMIC proposes a unique way of adapting and optimizing Cloud computing applications by introducing the novel concepts of polymorph architecture and proactive adaptation. Polymorph architecture is when a component can run in different technical forms, i.e. in a Virtual Machine (VM), in a container, as a big data job, or as serverless components, etc. Depending on the application’s requirements and its current workload, its components could be deployed in various forms in different environments to maximize the utility of the application deployment and the satisfaction of the user. Proactive adaptation is not only based on the current execution context and conditions but aims to forecast future resource needs and possible deployment configurations. This ensures that adaptation can be done effectively and seamlessly for the users of the application. The MORPHEMIC deployment platform will therefore be very beneficial for heterogeneous deployment in distributed environments combining various Cloud levels including Cloud data centres, edge Clouds, 5G base stations, and fog devices.

Role of IS-Wireless

IS-Wireless will be responsible for showcasing the Morphemic solutions with the use-case related to the deployment and optimization of 5G CRAN network. The scenario foreseen consist of two essential cases: “case A” the use of MORPHEMIC tools for supporting network deployment options prior to the actual deployment and “case B” – validating a potential for utilizing the MORPHEMIC tools for suggesting optimization strategies for the already deployed mobile networks compliant with virtual RAN concept. Some of the benefits foreseen with the delivery of Morphemic platform to the use-cases A/B for 5G virtualized networks are:

  1. Automated identification of optimal placement strategies for virtual RAN building blocks, including multiple optimization criteria
  2. Manual selection of cloud provider as well as optimal VNF placement and packaging gets self-adjusted
  3. Mobile network deployment can easily be tailored for a vertical needs and multiple strategies evaluated automatically with the help of Morphemic
  4. Automated assessment and evaluation of network deployment a priori
  5. Predictive workload scaling and adaptation thanks to Morphemic toolboxes
  6. Possibility of including operators’ policies in the network scaling and evolution process
