5G/6G Open RAN Testbed

Get your own full end-2-end 5G or 6G testbed using IS-Wireless advanced implementation of O-RAN specifications. Based on years of experience in R&D projects in Horizon 2020, FP7 and SNS JU.

Overview

The 5G/6G Open RAN Testbed consists of software and hardware elements which allow you creating your own setup depending on the needs. The software part consists of O-DU, O-CU, Near-Real-Time Radio Intelligent Controller (Near-RT RIC) and CORE. The hardware includes Radio Units, commercial and laboratory types and servers. API for own xApp development.

We are committed to deliver proven and modern 5G/6G solutions to universities, R&D centres and commercial customers

  • Near-RT RIC

Near-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources via fine-grained data collection and actions over the E2 interface. Own xApps development possible

  • Support and maintenance

Decide how many hours of support you need or get it on the go. We provide remote secure updates for the software

  • O-CU, O-DU

Split architecture allows for better RAN coordination, control performance features, load management, real-time performance optimization

  • Indoor and outdoor

We cooperate with commercial Radio Units vendors. Non-commercial RUs based on USRP B210 is also possible. Our DU supports both TDD and FDD

We deliver our testbed or its elements in a number of R&D projects. Below we listed some projects we are engaged in

Details

Below is the list of items that make up the testbed

O-CU and O-DU

With the IS-Wireless approach, flexible split and move of 5G NR functions (protocol stack layers) between O-DU and O-CU units is possible. IS-Wireless Liquid RAN O-CU is an advanced implementation of O-RAN Central Unit and Liquid RAN O-DU is an advanced implementation of O-RAN Distributed Unit. Both are important and challenging part of each modern 5G gNodeB.

Hardware

We cooperate with various hardware manufacturers. List of commercial O-Radio Units suppliers include Benetel indoor and outdoor units, Cablefree. For the laboratory purposes we could also propose non-commercial O-RUs based on USRP B210. List of servers partners include such brands like HPE, DELL, Advantech or Supermicro. We help designing the hardware BOM based on your needs.

Near-RT RIC

IS-Wireless Liquid RAN Near-RT RIC is an implementation of O-RAN Near Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller. It is an advanced logical function that enables near-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements (i.e. O-DU, O-CU) and resources via fine-grained data collection and actions over the E2 interface.

Main benefits of the Liquid RAN Near-RT RIC:

  • RAN analytics information generation (KPM based on counters).
  • Monitor, override or control the behaviour of O-DU and/or O-CU.
  • Support/control RRM (Radio Resource Management) features (i.e. cell-less, scheduler, slicing.
  • Control loop in the order of 10ms – 1s.

Liquid RAN

Open RAN testbed is based on our concept of Liquid RAN architecture. It includes:

  • Flexible software and hardware implementations allow scalable cost-effective solutions.
  • Split architecture allows for better RAN coordination, control performance features, load management, real-time performance optimization.
  • Configurable functional splits will enable adaptation to various use cases, such as variable latency on transport.

Together with the testbed you get:

  • Support during installation
  • Support for the agreed period
  • Documentation
  • Maintance, updates and upgrades
